Write on! testimonials
Students and Parents Say . . .
"I am a professional writer, but I've often struggled with how to transfer a love of creative writing to my own children. My daughter Mary had the opportunity to take Gwen's Write On! and Write on! Again classes a few years ago, and greatly benefited from them. It was especially helpful for her to have an outside opinion -- someone other than just Mom! Now a sophomore in high school, she remains an excellent and enthusiastic writer. Thanks, Gwen!"

"I absolutely loved WRITE ON!! I would do two or three lessons at one time cause I just couldn't hold myself back."

"I'm glad to say your class has made my son take a different look at writing." -- TN
"One of my favorite things about Write On! is the feedback that I get from Mrs. Simmons. She tweaks my writing, giving me creative ideas and opinions. One method Mrs. Simmons uses is to give the students story-starters. She will start a story and then the student's assignment is to finish the story. When I did this exercise, if I didn't particularly like the story starter, I would have to twist the story around to make room for my own version of the story. It made for some very creative and interesting moments. I would highly recommend Write On! for all students, not just to those who already like to write, but even to the writing novice. Write On! takes the student from mundane writing to exciting and interesting writing!"

"I have taken both courses and have found them to be an excellent and exciting method for beginner to intermediate writers. Write On! provides outstanding hands-on help from a tutor who answers questions, gives constructive criticism and guides you on your way to becoming a talented and confident writer. After taking this class I feel much more secure about my writing skills and feel that my ability and scope of knowledge has greatly improved. I would recommend Write On! to anyone who wishes to further their writing ability."

"When my mother told me that she had signed me up for a writing course, I was pretty irritated. Normally, writing is a drag. But I enjoyed your course immensely! I can honestly say there wasn't an assignment that I didn't like." -- FL
"Did I tell you? Over the Christmas holidays, my son was asked by his grandma what he wanted to be when he grows up. I was expecting the usual answers (computer technician, engineer, mission control for NASA space shuttle missions, etc.). I about fell off my chair when he replied, "I think I would like to be a writer." Of course, for a technical magazine, but WOW! See what you've done! Thank you, thank you and thank you again!"

"My two daughters are enjoying WRITE ON! tremendously. As their mom, I am trying NOT to look surprised when either of them, without prompting from me, are working hard at their writing! I didn't seem to have the spark to motivate them but you do! Hurray!"
-- CA
"My daughter has enjoyed this class. Her interest in the assignment topics motivates her to do her best. Your corrections are done in a gentle, inoffensive way mixed with lots of positive comments."
-- AR
"I'm very thankful my mom found your class. This is the best, most interesting and fun writing class I've ever had!"
-- NJ
"You'll never guess what happened today . . . The boys wrote unsolicited stories aside from the WRITE ON! assignments . . . I see a spark of enthusiasm for writing that this 'math mom' could not light."
-- KY
"I love how you had me write about what interests me. That made it much easier and more fun. I have learned a lot and I will always think of writing as fun and not boring. I feel as if I know you and that you're not just some person out there putting out assignments. There is nothing I disliked about this course except that it seemed to fly by too fast!"
-- FL
"Before I took your class, I thought writing was a bore. But I changed my mind fast."
-- AK
"The lessons were not hard to understand. Mom said your critiques are going to look good in my portfolio for this year. I couldn't have asked for a more comprehensive writing approach."
--Rachel
"I am happy to tell you that I would have died without WRITE ON! this summer. This class was awesome!"
--Barbara
"With my new knowledge, I feel like an author. You might want to watch the 'new' shelf at your library and bookstore because I might be the author of a book!
--Jennifer
"I wanted to give my endorsement of Gwen's course. I am an English major and many of my friends asked why I needed someone else to teach my child to write. I didn't, but what my child needed was an objective eye... someone who could encourage and point out mistakes gently. Sometimes kids take things better from someone else than Mom. Also, it helped me to have someone else look at my daughter's skills and polish up anything I missed. Gwen has been super! And my Katherine has loved it! I feel certain our son will take this course at some point in the future."

"I wanted to write and let you know how enthusiastic Scott has been about doing his writing assignments for your course. I have hardly had to remind him to do them, and I haven't given him any help at all. In the past, he has hated writing and it has been like pulling teeth to get him to do it. I heard him enthusiastically telling his dad that he must be a good writer because of all the positive comments he was getting on his papers. It was like he had made a great discovery! You don't know how monumental a thing it is for me to hear him say he may be a good writer! Thank you!"
